| - Went to Matt's Big Breakfast with 6 of my peers after an informational session on a Saturday afternoon. It was very busy, there was at least a 30 minute waiting period, and we had to wait for all the members of our group to be present before our waiting period even began.
Even though we ended up waiting for a little over 30 minutes, it was well worth the wait because we got to sit at this big table located in a little room they have off to the side. It made the setting very intimate and homey since we were surrounded by cute decor and a refrigerator holding Matt's homemade preserves.
The first time I ever went to Matt's Big Breakfast I was really craving egg salad so I ordered the egg salad sandwich, which even though it was good, it wasn't anything I would return back for. With that in mind, this time I decided to order something Matt's Big Breakfast is known for, that being BREAKFAST! I ordered the special of the day, the egg scramble complete with local cheese, spinach, and sausage. Between the hashbrowns or home fries I ordered the home fries (basically quartered potatoes, crisped to perfection and seasoned with rosemary, YUM). The scramble came with a side of toast with butter and a little cup of their famous preserves. I ordered sourdough toast and the preserves that it came with were strawberry. Their preserves are definitely worth a try! Not to be confused with jelly, their preserves have a nice consistency with bits of fruit noted.
I would not recommend dining here if you have big groups in which the check needs to be split. I say this because if we wanted the receipt split according to what everyone ate, we had to take it up to the counter where we were informed by the cashier that she was unable to split it by item, we had to give her dollar amounts. This got a little tricky since the receipt wasn't itemized but rather grouped into by item (i.e. 3 hog and chick's were ordered and the receipt only showed the total for all three). Additionally, we didn't have menus in front of us to determine the individual item prices and our group was fairly large which made standing at the cashier doing math quite the inconvenience for anyone in line behind us.
It mostly seemed like there were families and parties of one here at Matt's Big Breakfast so definitely go solo or with your family.
I would definitely recommend Matt's Big Breakfast if you're looking for homey breakfast food with subtle modern nuances.
