| - As much as I don't want to be one, The Local Donut might make me a donut lover. A friend was looking for a quick coffee and breakfast near my place recently. She loves donuts, so I suggested we pop in here as I had begun following them on Insta and I love trying new local spots. Wow ... We were both dazzled. Looking at all the options, it was tough to decide... So I bought 3! I had the peanut butter and jelly there for breakfast, which was phenomenal. It was a big fluffy yeast donut, topped with peanut butter, drizzled with chocolate and a blob of strawberry preserves on the center. I took home the cake donut, with maple frosting and peanuts on top, as well as the caramel coconut yeast donut. Both were great. They were out of fritters, so I'm hoping to get one of those next time I make it by. Fritters = my childhood. =) As my friend and I sat in their shop enjoying our donuts, one of the employees came out and offered us a fresh out of the fryer glazed, yeast donut... so we split it! So good. It was such a fluffy donut.
Generally speaking, I am pretty adamant about not liking donuts because of the greasy feeling they leave in your mouth (Dunkin, Bosa, Krispy...ick) after just having a bite. The Local Donut does not have this effect.... nor did my stomach feel gross after having their donut. I don't know if they have a fancy fryer, or use magic oil, or if its because they're fresher than any donut I've had before... Whatever they're doing is great! They had about 4-5 blends of coffee made and out on the counter for guests, and the gal behind the counter will add cream to your cup once you've paid for your coffee if you like. They even had almond milk creamer (Califia Barista blend = pretty much the best!) which I was pretty impressed by. I bought 3 donuts and a small coffee for $6. Seemed fair to me since they clearly put time into making a good recipe and use quality ingredients.
