  • Wow I can't believe there is only one other review for this gym! The description provided by the business is a little outdated..... so hopefully this helps! (No More Crossfit at this location) I'm 32 and have been lifting at home for a few years... I wanted a change of scenery/pace so I started looking for gyms near Forest Hills. Not into Planet Fitness..... Standalone Crossfit and Pure Barre are more than I am looking to pay. Enter, KHC! With nothing more to go on than their website I decided to sign up for a class and just try out a monthly package before committing to an annual one. To my surprise I was offered three free classes to pick from and use within a week. I received a call from Gail, confirming my online reservation and welcoming me to the club. She also gave me some great directions as the club can be tricky to find! Use the Cable St. entrance, go to the end of the facility and turn left into the parking garage, go all the way up, and then back to the left again! And then walk through a long corridor and it's one of the first doors to the right. The gentleman at the front desk was super friendly and said he would give me a tour. Then Sam with Shape X walked over and finished the tour (more on this later). They seemed to have everything one would need.... cardio machines, weights, didn't check out all of the equipment but appeared to have the standard, tvs, locker rooms, smoothie bar, multiple group fitness rooms, delicious Quest protein bars ($3). They have classes at 7pm which works perfect for my work/commute schedule. Both of the classes I have taken thus far were great. The instructors were fun and kept momentum going. The classes themselves were difficult but can be modified for any fitness level! So far I have tried Zumba with Heather and Barre with Valerie. I was the youngest attendee at Zumba; there were 2 other young gals in the barre class. I definitely think there is a more mature vibe to this gym but that's not necessarily a negative! After speaking with Sam, I guess the Shape X area of the gym is a separate entity from KHC? They offer classes called Grind, Suspension, and a boxing class that I forget the name... But, the classes are $17!! A piece! I haven't received more info on them yet.... He said I could try out one class for free and have a complementary personal training session. But I also think you need to pay for a membership at KHC?? I'll update once I get more info. While their classes seem "cooler" and more total body with weights incorporated.... I may just stick to the classes KHC offers. Oh, they close at 3pm on Sat and Sunday which is unfortunate. So I'll just have to force myself to go early in the am! Overall, everyone was extremely friendly, the facility was clean and well kept, not very modern or high tech but that's fine with me, still appears to have quality equipment and knowledgeable instructors.
