| - We rarely venture downtown except for special occasions. This Friday morning, the hubby and I decided to venture to the Wynn Buffet for brunch. Line wasn't bad at 9:45. I overheard someone say if you pay $10, you bypass the line...no thanks! We got seated before 10am. The atrium was definitely beautiful. I was tempted to ask to be seated there but my belly couldn't wait any longer so we went for the first available. All the staff we encountered were friendly and attentive.
I have to say everything was beautifully presented. Only wish they all tasted as good as they looked. Here are my likes and dislikes:
Likes :
1. Congee - the century egg, bonito flakes and green onions made this dish. It was comfortingly delicious.
2. Smoked salmon hash - yum!
3. Smoked salmon - melt in your mouth
4. Mussels - served cold but delicious
5. NY strip steak - perfectly cooked, juicy
6. Korean short ribs - not too sweet, tender
7. Mixed seafood scampi - spicy and creamy
8. Smoked trout salad, beet salad & watermelon salad - refreshingly good
9. Lychee gelato and green tea gelato - delish! Loved the lychee pieces. Together they work well.
10. Freshly squeezed orange juice
So-so's
1. Ahi poke - two huge slices per serving in a sweet sauce. Too big a slice, it was off putting.
2. Pork tenderloin - salty
3 salmon and cod dishes - over cooked
4. Snapper dish - tender but had a funny taste
5. Pork buns - nothing special
6. Clam chowder - bland and where's the clams?
7. Warm toffee cake - blah!
8. Candied Apple - want to lose your teeth? This one's for you
They have stations for omelets, pancakes and crepes which I didn't get to try because of the long lines.
Towards the end of of our dining experience, the power went out in the whole hotel for 30+mins. They were telling people to go back to their tables until the power came back. Of course, you can't force hungry people to sit and wait. People were using their phones' flashlights to guide them around the buffet.
Was it worth paying $54+ for 2? NOPE. Add to that the parking fee - $7 first two hours. Had to shell out $12 since we were there for 2.5hrs. Steep especially for us locals. Now I'm reminded why I stay away. I'm going to stick to my neighborhood casinos where parking is still free, where we are still valued as locals.
