| - Upon entrance, the first impression I had was this noodle joint looked classier than most. The lighting, wall decorations, table setting were so pretty and welcoming. Love the cushions on the bench. My mom and I put them to good uses.
Origination is another noodle joint that offers choose your own noodle soup, in addition to preset noodle soups and rice bowls. Instead of choices of noodle, you have many choices of broth. The broth can taste chicken, beef, sour, spicy, Tom Yum Goong spicy, numb spicy (??), and maybe some more that I can't? remember. For most, I would suggest to start with a preset noodle soup, just so to experience what the kitchen thinks is authentic and the best.
I ordered a Tomato Yunnan noodle soup ($8.60). The portion was big. There was so much noodle that I doubt anyone would walk away hungry. All the ingredients were minced to bits. Sourness was the main flavour of the broth. Other than that, it tasted flat. And this was where the cart of spices and condiments came in. I added soya sauce and fresh chilli flakes (beware - it was spicy). The broth came alive. I won't call this particular noodle soup meh, but overall it was average, because there was so little minced pork. I will try the sliced beef flanks noodle soup next time.
My mom ordered a curry rice. She said it tasted all right. She also said the chilli oil was very spicy.
The service was fast. I wish my waitress smiled more, though maybe this was too much to ask from a Chinese noodle joint, which is another type of "fast food" in our culture.
