  • Finally I'm Home!!! I'm from Miami, my family came from Cuba in 1959, I've been eating this food my entire life, or at least until I moved to Arizona and found that there isn't a good Cuban or Brazilian restaurant worth a damn anywhere... until I found Mimitas! Been eating here since I found the place, the owners do a great job of bringing you the true taste of Cuban food to your table. I've tried the competition (Havana Cafe) that in no way represents good Cuban food either in selection or price. Havana's doesn't even have a staple in Cuban food on their menu a simple Bistec Empanizado (Breaded Steak) not only does Mimita's have it on the menu, it takes up an entire plate when it's served, this is what I'm talking about! I spoke to the owner for a great amount of time one day, he and my cousin went to the same high school and probably knew each other, one day when my cousin comes to town we'll have to see if they remember each other. Bottom line, prices are excellent about 1/3rd the competition, the food is superb and authentic and about the only thing that they don't have is real Cuban Bread (Pan Cubano) but that takes 2 days to make a batch and even in Miami few make it themselves but it would be amazing if they had it and even sold it by the loaf! If you're expecting hot, spicy Mexican food, forget it, Cuban food doesn't mask it's lack of taste by turning up the heat such as Mexican food, the emphasis is on taste and the lime is a key ingredient in the taste of our food. Think creole, think islands, think sweet and order plantains, have a big plate of black beans and rice and end the meal with 'Rocket Fuel" aka Cuban Coffee .. don't feel cheated when you get a 1 oz thimble sized serving, anymore and you'll be up for the next 10 days! It's pure awesomeness!
