  • My journey with my broken wrist has been on heck of a roller coaster! Broke it snowboarding in Utah, was told by the dummy in the ER that I had a clean break and would need to get casted in a week, so the swelling goes down. I SHOULD have had surgery THAT DAY! Anyhow, I got casted by a BIGGER dummy in Chicago when I should have had surgery. So I get put in this horrid cast, and book flight to AZ to "heal" and have my mom take care of me. Anyhow, so I get to AZ and find Frankel whose in my network, for I needed to have x rays to make sure I was healing properly. I meet with the Doctors assistant (pointless) this dud walks in whose not an actual surgeon, but he works under E.Scott Frankel. Weird guy, one you wouldn't believe he knew what he was talking about. He put me in a splint, told me to see Frankel in two days (apt was on a Friday) and said I needed surgery. ALL WEEEKEND my hand felt like it was on fire, I think it was more painful than the day of my actual break! I called the emergency number to see if they would give me something stronger than 325mg Percocet because my tolerance was so high from the medication I was on prior. The Doctor refused me. So they left me in pain the whole weekend. Monday rolls around, after a weekend of escruciating pain I have the pleasure of meeting Dr. Scott Frankel and he advised me I needed surgery ASAP! First off, I live in Chicago and needed to get back there, but he told me that I should stay a month and do my follow up appointments with him and physical therapy with him (of course, more $$$ in his pocket) But after a month of misery, I wanted this surgery done with, I should have had it done day of my break, but instead of sending me a hand specialist in the ER in Utah (where I fell snowboarding) I was sent a knee specialist. So lucky I am! So Monday was my appointment with Frankel, and Tuesday I was set for surgery! My mom dropped me off at the hospital and I waited to go into the OR solo. Before they put me under Frankel was to talk to me, and I know nothing about bones, or really what exactly he's doing to me for surgery. I asked if he could explain and his first response " Is your mom here?" No, I'm paying the bills, you can talk to me. He BARELY went over it with me and he made me feel so uncomfortable, I wanted to jump out of that bed! Surgery done with, Frankel did a GREAT JOB! My wrist is FINALLY healing!! I would recommend Frankel because he knows what he is doing. Not the most personable guy, but professional and polite. But he doesn't give the good drugs out, which sucks because I do not take pain well. But I am overall happy I had my surgery with him, for my follow up Dr in Chicago said he did a great job as well. Thank you Doctor Frankel for fixing me!
