| - This place is terrible. Right now I'm writing this review from a stoop next to the Starbucks at Yonge and College. Why am I sitting on a stoop you ask? Well, because the internet at the Courtyard went out. No big deal, you say? I agree . . . and I did agree the first two times it happened. I've been here for a week now and the internet has gone out FIVE TIMES!!! I'm having to use the free wi-fi at Starbucks to do actual work. It's pretty sad. I complained to the front desk to say that regardless of the Courtyard's wireless being free, customers book at hotels based on amenities. If wireless is one of the amenities noted, it should be working. Each time the internet goes out, the staff says they have no details on why it's out or when it will be fixed.
Besides this, I will agree with a previous reviewer who said that the staff is rude. Not all of them, but none of the many valet greet you; some of the front desk is apathetic and uninformed; restaurant staff can't wait to get you out of the restaurant. I'm so dissappointed!
Oh wait, and I was here during the G8/G20 summit. They made NO announcements to guests about safety or even what areas to avoid. Go ahead and google "Toronto G8" and you'll see quite a bit of mayhem. Guess what. It took place right outside of the hotel on Yonge street (and very much on Yonge/College where people were vandalizing stores like Starbucks, Tim Horton's and even mom & pop shops). There were hundreds of cops lined up outside and neither the management, nor the staff made any efforts to inform guests what was going on. I guess the daily "Globe and Mail" outside my door should have alerted me to any safety concerns.
I won't mention the fact that the neighborhood that this place sits in is riddled with porn video stores, massage parlours and sex toy shops. They have no control over the neighboring establishments - but its still worth noting. My bad, I said I wasn't going to mention it.
The fitness center is pretty decent though. Good number of treadmills with televisions at each one. Also, they've got a universal machine. The breakfast buffet is beat. Leave it alone. But, if you do go into the bar, order the chicken tenders. They're amazing!
That's it, I'm done.
