  • Whew! Saying this place is unique is like saying Mel Blanc could do voices - total understatement! All of the ceilings are crazy high and paneled with wild designs. It kind of has a romantic feel to it... almost. There's an air of tradition and of a bygone era going on here. Ah, the halcyon days of old Cleveland.... Anyway, don't stay here if you're looking for normal Holiday Inn-esque service and modernity. Also, don't stay here if you lack patience. The 3-star review is mainly due to the trouble we encountered more or less throughout our stay, not from the hotel itself. Every time I went to the front desk the people were crazy busy - every single time. The phones ring off the hook, they're constantly putting out some fire or dealing with an issue (broken A/C, validating parking tickets, directions, etc). My room didn't have the refrigerator and microwave I requested (standard for multi-day business travel in my opinion) so they switched me to a different room - which also didn't have a microwave (but there was a fridge). So the front desk guy - AJ, a terrific kid with excellent customer service skills - had to order one up. Their parking garage is down the block and around the corner, which is kind of a pain but not a huge deal (except in the rain, which I was fortunate enough to experience). The breakfast is very "meh" UNLESS you're there early, right when it starts, and then it's terrific. Fresh eggs, bacon, sausage, pancake batter, hard boiled eggs, etc. There was a gigantic difference between breakfast at 6 and breakfast at 8a. Worth getting up early. Long story short - if you're staying downtown, you probably won't find a better deal than this place. Great location (Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is less than a mile away, as is Quicken Loans Arena and 4th Street)! Also - my receipt was wrong at checkout so the young lady said she'd get her manager to fix it when she came in (in about an hour or so). I stopped back by on my way out of town - about 3 hours later - and it wasn't ready. So I asked to have it emailed and was told I'd have it by that evening. Nope. So I called the next day, spoke to the same girl, and was told she'd talk with her manager and it would be emailed within a few hours. Nope. I called again, this time perhaps a bit curt in my manner. Still, it didn't appear in my in-box for about 24 hours, and then it wasn't even an amended receipt - it was a refund of the incorrect amount. So I had to contact them AGAIN to get the original receipt to compare the two, as I didn't keep it because it was wrong and I was supposed to get a new one. Sheesh!
