I purchased four tickets for the Grape Escape this past weekend. It is advertised as "5 different wines, and each is served with chef-prepared hors d oeuvres. You will learn of each wine's characteristics such as the body, aroma, bouquet and finish." This never happened. Instead, we were seated in a blindingly bright train where there was no discussion of the wines, which were probably purchased at a gas station right before the event. The hors d'oeuvres were HORRIBLE and prepackaged in tiny little plastic containers. Only the first car has music, which no one tells you about. The people next to us were already drunk when they boarded the train and only got worse each time they goaded the volunteer to pour them more. Eventually the volunteer stopped coming to the back of the train so my group was also cut off (not that it mattered since the wines were total swill). This is the second time I've had a bad experience on the CVSR (the last was the haunted train to Canal Fulton-a total disaster a few years back). For $220.00, I expected A LOT more. I have alas, learned my lesson and will not go on another railroad trip through CVSR no matter how much fun it sounds like. Since it was nighttime when we went, we didn't even get to see any scenery (except the obnoxious drunks next to us).
