  • Yelp 100 Challenge 15' * 16/100 I'd like to introduce you to my (second) humble abode. Much of my school life is spent at the third or fourth floor quiet study room. Students with a lot of reading material will find solace here because there is ample seating, available desktop computers, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the campus, stacks and stacks of books, and most importantly, silence. Both floors also have an alternative study area called the silent study room. It does not allow food or any electronic devices, rules of which are reinforced daily by a security guard. As much I enjoy studying here, I tend to choose the former more often because it allows students to bring in their lunch. Many times, I just grab a quick bite then transition over to study - all in one setting. Should you decide to hang out, there is a coffee bean on the first floor and couches to relax with your friends. Most of the first and second floors are designed for study groups so expect noise level to be a little higher. As you go up the stairs or escalators, turning right on the second floor will take you to tutorial services which offers free academic help to students. Scanners are available on the first floor while printers are scattered throughout the building. Be sure to put some money into your rebel cards if you decide to print because it acts as a debit exclusive for those enrolled. Printers can also be used as email scanners where your documents are forwarded directly to your account and will not cost you a penny. This is what I usually do to avoid cost. Group study rooms can also be found on every floor and services students on a first come first serve basis. They usually contain a table, several chairs and a white board for discussion. However, these rooms are almost always occupied so if you're not picky, you could just settle with grabbing a white board on wheels at second floor group study area. That's what I do if I have a group of friends to study with. Students will also discover that the library hosts numerous events, a handful of which are held during and around the time of the finals. They're normally open until midnight during the semester but extend their hours during the last week of school. Here they host fun events to de-stress such as puppy therapy and yoga classes, all while serving students snacks late at night for those who decide to pull all-nighters. The lied library is definitely one of the highlights of my UNLV experience so far and I encourage students to explore all that the library has to offer!
