  • I almost gave this a four star because of cleanliness and responsiveness of staff. Our stay was fine, but the hotel hasn't been updated in awhile and its interior walls are VERY thin. Not sure the price reflects the value. It's definitely a lower, middle of the pack hotel. When most of the hotel rooms in town were booked for an EPIC conference, we decided to stay here for a 5 day work trip. The exterior doesn't appear to have been updated in decades and while the interior is tidy and clean, it also hasn't been updated in awhile. This didn't bother me because it felt clean and I found my room was well tidied and consistently refreshed each day. At least the housekeeping staff I had seemed to take care and pride in her work. (in fact, we ran into her while we were leaving and she talked about how she recognized us by our luggage. She was very friendly and wished us a safe trip home.) Complimentary breakfast starts at 6 AM. While it looks like the breakfast room was made out of an old bedroom, it's been totally redone (not recently) so it looks like your standard hotel breakfast room and is actually larger than you might anticipate. It's a generic breakfast with yogurt, waffles, 2 cereals, instant oatmeal packets, sliced bread and English muffins, assorted pastries (donuts, mini muffins), red apples and bananas, powdered(?) eggs and breakfast meat. During our stay, the staff put out USA Today newspapers on each table when the papers arrived. The quality wasn't great, but it fine for a free breakfast at a lower, middling hotel. The only problem I had was the walls are painfully thin. I heard conversations in the hallway and rooms around me. It was most noticeable early in the week, so I suspect I gradually got used to it. But if you are a light sleeper, that could be a big problem and you might want to request a room on an upper level. I didn't have any other problems with my room. We had a little trouble with our bills upon checkout. Principally, we were charged for a safe none of us used. Staff took off these charges as well as a couple others we questioned. I recommend looking over your bills for standard upcharges that you might not have to pay. In terms of convenience to Madison, the hotel is right on Highway 151 which provides a direct route into downtown. Unfortunately about three exits west and 151 starts to have stop lights. Stop lights which don't seem to be timed. Our travel time to the UW hospital ranged from 30 to 50 minutes, depending on whether we left before 7 AM or not. It made for long working days. I didn't have much time to explore what Sun Prairie has to offer, but my coworkers said there was a nice park/natural wildlife area in the neighborhood across the street from the hotel and the small downtown area has several restaurants, bars, and at least one cafe.
