  • I've lived in Concord a little over a year, but rarely go to downtown early on a weekday morning. This morning my boyfriend and I ended up downtown after driving to our first choice for breakfast and realizing that side of town was without power. Our next choice was Carm's but their door was locked. If you don't read any further, I'll save you the story: I would not recommend for breakfast if you're expecting hearty. We walked in to a mostly empty restaurant. With no sign or greeting, we weren't sure whether to take a seat or go up to the counter. Seeing there were menus on the table, we decided to seat ourselves. After perusing the menu and still not being acknowledged, I decided to approach the counter thinking "maybe this is a place you order then sit?" I ordered the 2 French toast, 2 eggs, 3 bacon and a coffee and my boyfriend ordered the biscuits and gravy. When I went up to order, the woman at the register was more than friendly and polite. Which actually makes me feel bad for being disappointed. I explained it was our first time and we weren't sure whether we were to order with her or wait at the table. She apologized for not getting to us, but the place really wasn't crazy so I didn't mind going up to order. Apparently they will come to your table... The food was disappointing. It tasted okay, but for $14, I could've made better at home. From our seat we could observe the kitchen and before getting our food noticed that they used the microwave a lot. Little did I know that meant I was getting the Oscar Meyer microwaveable bacon instead of the real deal, freshly cooked. My French toast was just okay, a little soggy and the eggs were the best part of my plate. As for the biscuits and gravy, for being in the South I'd expect homemade biscuits, but they looked fresh out of a can and the gravy didn't look appetizing, my boyfriend ate it, but was pretty disappointed. Needless to say, I won't be back for breakfast. Maybe a midday coffee/tea and a pastry which look store bought, but probably not.
