| - I lived in this complex for 7 years. At first the management company was great. The people in the office were friendly, helpful and reasonable. Unfortunately that changed drastically when Empirian took over. They are simply concerned with getting your money, nothing more. I never felt valued as a good tenant that paid on time.
Every interaction with the manager and most of the office staff was a struggle. Maintenance requests were often ignored, the office often closed early without notice. I had to stop getting packages delivered because they closed early so often, I couldn't plan on picking anything up. Requests to see the manager were often refused, even when she was clearly sitting in her office. Calls were not returned and the property was often not well maintained. It was very frustrating.
I complained several times about my balcony flooding and water coming under the door and damaging my furniture and carpet. It was never fixed. My air conditioner was constantly broken and only blowing weakly cool air, creating high electric bills. My bathtub grew mold and fungus that could not be cleaned but they never took care of it. At one point I had a horrendous roach problem that took them 2 months to address. One wall had severe termite damage. I found to my shock that Empirian slaps you with an $80.00 late fee if your rent is only ONE day late, even if you had never been late before. Outrageous!
The worst came when I moved out and they tried to stick me with $900.00 in cleaning charges. I was floored. My apartment had some minor issues, but most of them were completely reasonable considering 7 years of normal wear and tear. They tried to charge me for everything under the sun, including for repairs I had repeatedly reported as maintenance issues (and which were ignored). They tacked on extra rent charges even though I had paid through the end of the month. I figured I would not get my $200 deposit back, but $900 is just crazy.
I spoke to the assistant manager and manager, both of whom were their typically rude selves. They treated me like some deadbeat off the street, not a loyal tenant of 7 years. Finally the District Manager (who was at least professional) agreed to reduce the bill by $100.00. I will pay it just to move on and preserve my credit, but I still feel cheated and sick to hand over another $800 of my money to these crooks.
I am glad that I have bought a house and will hopefully never have to deal with shady apartment management companies again. The last couple of years at Empirian on Central were a terrible experience. There are a glut of rentals available in Phoenix right now, do not give your money to this company. Go somewhere where tenants are valued and appreciated and the management provides a bare minimum of customer service.
