I went to the Pompeii Afterhours exhibit, which I thought was a cool idea because you only pay $14 for the exhibit rather than the additional $18 for general admission. We really just wanted to see the Pompeii exhibit because I'd seen it in Minnesota in 2007. Apparently a lot of other people objected to a $32 fee for an hour-long exhibit, because there were so many people that the museum was too crowded to even wave one's arms around. Attempts at crowd control and dividing people in entry groups based on the times on their tickets failed. It was so cramped that it was nearly impossible to read any of the signs or see any of the artifacts. Parents trying to find their kids, adults taking photograph after photograph after photograph, people pushing their way through to try to see the actual exhibit. Then, to make matters worse, the museum told people who wanted to see a short video that they wouldn't be allowed to go back and see any of the artifacts that...none of us could see due to overcrowding. We were hoping the final portion of the exhibit would be nice, since it was lovely when I saw it at the Science Museum of Minnesota, but there was hardly anything left to see. I don't know if they didn't get the entire exhibit or if the museum in St. Paul just did a better job of arranging what they had, but the event was so stressful and I learned so little that I wish I had just stayed at home.
