  • EDC 2014. My last EDC was 2010 when it was still a Los Angeles party so I really didn't know the best way to plan our trip this year. Thankfully, one of my fellow raver friends had been to the Vegas party every year and after 3 years of staying on the strip he called me and said, "No way let's get a room at the Holiday Inn." This review is going to be written strictly from a Speedway event attendee perspective. I don't know if I were coming simply to tour Vegas if this would be the spot. However, well done Holiday Inn, well done. Let's start with the staff. Prior to coming I had to call about 3 times for logistics information. Every time I called, the staff had me laughing so hard by the time I got off the phone. I love super positive service, but the sense of humor was an added bonus. Upon arrival, the laughs continued and check in was painless. We were welcomed with bottled water and cookies. Sweet! The rest of the stay, the staff took pictures, threw a pizza party free for the entire hotel Sunday, and really just remained the most fun and upbeat crew I've ever seen at a hotel (and most other places for that matter). The entire hotel was booked out for EDC but not once did it feel like we were staying in a booked out hotel. The halls and lobby stayed clear and clean throughout our visit and there was never a problem finding a spot. The hotel even reversed maid service hours for the event, since EDC is a dusk til dawn event (making sleeping during the day a must to party for 3 days), room cleaning took place at night. They were also very responsive to any issues. Night 2, our AC stopped working (later we heard it went down for several rooms). The temperatures day had been in the low 100s. Thankfully, we were on our way out the door to the festival when it went down, and when we returned at 6:30 am, we were relieved to find it was on and pumping nice cold air. Things happen sometimes, but how quickly it's handled makes the difference. Our room was clean and spacious (we had 2 full beds), complete with a fridge and microwave, large flat television, very large desk and nice clean bathroom. The amenities are perfect as well (though I did not require use of them) and included a fitness center, pool & spa and smoking area (since the hotel inside is 100% smoke free). Each floor has ice and beverage vending though I recommend bringing your own beverages if traveling during a large event. The vending was pretty wiped out by Sat and wasn't being refilled or serviced until the following week. Each morning though, upon returning from the festival the front desk had tons of bottled water waiting for us. Another huge score! The hotel is 4 miles from the speedway. On the phone I was told we could walk to the speedway no problem, but that was 100% untrue. Besides the fact that it was way too hot for that, walking beyond 2 miles was closed off to foot traffic and we were shuttled anyway. The next 2 night we drove and parked and it worked out so perfect. The neighborhood nearby is super sketchy, but not immediately surrounding HI. You can walk to 7-Eleven easily but I don't recommend walking beyond that. Walmart is a easy drive, as is Del Taco and In-N-Out. To drive to the strip or downtown is nothing though to grab a nice meal or visit a casino. I will definitely be a regular EDCLV attendee and this hotel I plan to make my regular spot. Thank you so much Holiday Inn for not just hosting us during the experience, but being a large and fantastic part of it.
