| - So, I'm new to the area and desperately needed to get my nails done before this baby comes, which could literally be any minute. I have gel on my toes that has lasted over a month (thanks to my awesome Japanese salon in Hawaii...tear) and I got a crappy manicure at Envy (it was super cheap) that I already had to take off (after 1 week) because it was so lousy. Sassy's was in the mall of the store I was visiting, and recommended by some colleagues.
I'm not gonna lie- not going to be visit this salon again. And here's why:
Pros:
1. Great Decor- very relaxing, nice chandeliers, pretty wallpaper. It looks like a very nice place.
2. No line and they took me right away.
3. They take credit cards.
Cons:
1. The gentleman (who seemed like the owner/manager) tried to use cuticle nippers on me that ALREADY HAD CUTICLES IN THEM. You know how they just build up in that little part while they're nipping? There should not be ANY in there before you have started, So that made me a little nervous. When I told him I needed him to use a new one that did NOT have someone else's dead skin cells built up into it, he tried to make an excuse about it being lotion or something. Whatever, either way it was total BS.
2. He apparently had never heard of gel on the toes. He clearly didn't believe me when I told him, asking me several times if I had put my feet into a UV machine, as though he thought I may have been confused. I finally took off my shoe to show him. As he had never seen before, he had a really hard time getting it off. Not sure how it's so different from fingernails, except that he probably usually soaks the fingers to get it off (NOT how they're supposed to do it, btw) so he was flummoxed. He finally soaked cotton in what I assumed was acetone and saran-wrapped the wad to the top of my foot. At my Japanese salon, they pull individual pieces of cotton to place on your nails, and wrap each finger in foil. It works well and quickly. This method did not work. When he took off the cotton, he used the electric file. That didn't work at first but he kept up and probably halved the thickness of my toenails. All this time, I'm trying not to be super nervous.
3. It took forever. Like over an hour and a half. And I just got a regular pedi and gel mani. He had to get up to get supplies about eleventy million times.
4. My toenails look like I filed and painted them myself and have bumps.
5. My thumbnails are still foggy from the alcohol- he assured me that it will go away. We shall see, it's been over an hour already and no sign of it clearing up.
6. It hurt when he nipped my toe cuticles and I think he cut healthy skin.
7. Massage was short and half-assed.
8. Unfriendly.
9. Expensive.
All in all, I spent $86 (inc. tip) to have gel toenails removed, a pedicure, and gel nails applied. That seems like a lot. I think I got that in Hawaii but with an awesome gel pedicure instead of a crappy regular one that will probably last a week. If I have to go back because of the foggy nail, this dude is gonna be sorry. I'm 9 months pregnant and not messing around. And yes, I am a super picky customer, especially when it comes to my beauty rituals.
