  • I made an appointment and brought my car in on a Friday. My tire light was on and I wanted to make sure there were no leaks. I put this information in the appointment notes. When I arrived and checked-in, the employee asked me what kind of oil my car took. I thought it was really odd since I had not signed up for an oil change but provided an answer. Then I noticed that the estimate (that I did not receive a copy of) I signed was for $34. I shrugged it off but then after about 15 mins, I went back up and asked if I was getting an oil change. He told me yes and I informed him that was not the reason for bringing my car in. He tried to look up my appt but did not find it. I told him about my issue and he said that he would make sure the technician checked the tires. Maybe 5-10 mins later, he said everything was fine and my car was ready to go. I took my car and while driving on Saturday, my tire light came on again. I figured it might be due to weather and Big O was closed. Sunday, while on the freeway, my car was starting to drive funny. I tried pulling over to the side of the freeway but did not feel safe getting out of the car. I drove it on home and noticed a flat. I had to call AAA and get my spare put on. I took the car back in on Monday and told them what happened. I took off of work and waited for about 2-3 hours. They told me a few times that they could not find a leak but then they said it was something with the beading. They said they sprayed a sealant but the only way to know if it worked was for me to drive it. I didn't think that was safe at all but I put my doubts aside and drove the car. I drove the car everyday on the freeway (about 40 miles each day) and it still felt like the tires were uneven. The tire light came back on on Wednesday and so I took the car back in on Thursday. They asked me if I was pulling their leg and I said no. At this point, I had gathered my warranty information for the tires (I was still under warranty) and I asked them if they could just change the tires. They said they would look at it. While waiting, I decided to peek out to look at my car and they hadn't even pulled my car into a stall. They had it parked behind another car. The front desk person (same one from day 1) informs me that they are working on it and I believe are replacing a valve. I would think that you would need to raise the car up but I'm not a tire person. Two minutes later he says that the car is ready to go. At this point, I'm frustrated, I'm tired of taking off of work, and, most importantly, I do not feel safe with the work they are doing. He assures me that everything is fine and he says if I have any more issues, they will then change the tire. I take the car and I just did not feel safe. I'm driving on the freeway every single day and I feel like my tire is going to blow at any point. I would be leaving in a few days to go home (driving from Vegas to Sacramento) and my gut (along with my co-workers and family) tells me to get a second opinion. My co-workers all recommended Discount Tires. I make an appointment and I tell them the issues that I have had at Big O Tires. I told them that it was the left rear tire and they said we are going to check all of the tires. Turns out, there was a nail in the right front tire and it was pretty low! Instead of Big O Tires checking all 4, EVERY TIME, they automatically just went to that one tire. I can only imagine what might've happened if I wouldn't have gotten a second opinion. To me, this was a major safety issue that could have ended badly because of Big O's nonchalant attitude towards addressing the issue. Note: I have never had issues from Big O tires in the Northern California area, which is why I bought my tires from them!
