  • I'm giving Sassy 4 stars out of 5 because although they're the best I've experienced in my short time in Charlotte (I've been to 3 different nail salons), there is still some room for improvement. Coming from Orange County, CA and LA, I've been spoiled with access to really good nail salons who compete with one another to provide the latest and greatest nail techniques and products to their customers, so my bar is really high. After a really horrible experience and a slightly better than average one, I was delighted to find that Sassy did a great job. I've been twice now and until I find rave reviews from another salon, they are my Charlotte go-to salon. Very clean and modern salon. The salon is very clean and has a white backdrop with a crystal chandelier in the center. The manicure station is comprised of 2 long bar tops, which is a nice departure from your standard tables. Talented staff that works to deliver the outcome of your preference. The staff listens carefully to what you want and then takes their time to ensure that their workmanship is exactly what you want. They are very detail-oriented and work at a measured yet efficient pace. I'm very specific about the shape of my nails and although "square" seems pretty self-explanatory, trust me, it doesn't always translate. My favorite technician is Tina, she's thorough but fast. Friendly staff. I'm Vietnamese but most people (including other Vietnamese) don't recognize it. I can't tell you how many nail salons I've been to where the employees are talking mad (insert synonym for crap) about customers, myself included. It isn't until I present my credit card, with my notoriously Vietmamese name do they say with dismay and chagrin, "You're Vietnamese?!?" followed up by "You don't speak Vietnamese, do you??" I do. (Once, the technicians were marveling at how well dressed I was, my designer handbag and shoes, and concluded that I must be some young girl who is sleeping with a dirty old white man, who has an Asian fetish. Before I left, I matter-of-factly told them that I am a thirty-something attorney and proudly make my own money). So I REALLY appreciate when the technicians are friendly, personable and don't gossip amongst themselves about their patrons. The last time I went, I even got really great restaurant recommendations from I believe, the owner. But sometimes, I like the idea of getting my nails done and catching up on reading, so to that vein, I appreciate that they respect that as well. Other aspects that I like are: + the color selection is pretty expansive, better than the other 2 places I've been to in Charlotte + you get complimentary drinks + you can schedule an appointment or walk-in (beware that sometimes walk-ins can be 45-minute waits) + my nails, even after 4+ weeks, never chip or lift. They just grow out and the gap between the gel and my cuticle is pretty wide. + even with an acrylic overlay and gel polish, my nails end up being pretty thin and natural (aka not too thick). However, there is room for improvement. _ sterilization. In CA, I'm accustomed to salons using new, sterile clippers and nail files for each customer. I have observed this not to be the case in any nail salon in Charlotte, which is disconcerting due to transmission of nail fungi. _ they don't offer a specialized silk wrap that has been developed and refined at several salons in Orange County or chrome nails (no salon in Charlotte has offered it yet) or dipped nails, which is durable and offers the matte look for a longer duration. _ their color selection could be improved; if I'm mixing colors to achieve a better color, that's a sign that it's not sufficient. Overall, given my experience in the short time since I've moved to Charlotte, if you're looking for a clean nail salon that offers quality services and has a pretty wide selection of colors, I highly recommend Sassy.
