| - I LOVE Udupi! In fact, since the first time my wife and I ate at Udupi, sambar has become a regular part of our breakfast rotation. We've ordered so many different south Indian spices, dals, curry leaves, and cooking supplies (tawa, electric stone grinder for dosa batter, idli steamer etc) that Amazon seems to think we live in India, which is awesome, as we just keep finding more stuff to try. Udupi has opened up a whole new cuisine to us, and we can't get enough of it!
Don't think of Udupi as a vegetarian restaurant. Yes, the food is strict vegetarian, but that is the way south Indian food is prepared. Since most veg restaurants aren't very good, if you think about Udupi this way, you'll miss out trying this cuisine, which is truly sad.
To the Udupi staff - keep doing what you do! It was a complete fluke that we found you... we were looking for another veg restaurant up the street, which happened to be closed and we stumbled in. Now south Indian food is a big part of our lives. BTW - we've been chasing the perfect home-made dosa for a long time, and can't seem to master the art (but getting better.) If you want two sous chefs to work for free on the weekends in exchange for some dosa tips, we're totally up for it!
