| - It has taken me some time to write this as it has only been 3 months since losing my beloved min pin Moose. One day I notice he wasn't eating as much, so I thought maybe he had an issue with a tooth. So, of course, I explained to him that I had to take him to get his teeth cleaned. I took him in the next day for a cleaning and met with Dr. B, who of course, as he should, suggested the pre-op blood work because Moose was pushing 10 years old! Me, being jaded and working in the legal field for over 15 years, am always hesitant, saying things like don't try and play on my heart and add on "extras" that my dog doesn't need. Even after dealing with my attitude, he made me understand why he needed it. I agreed. Within 30 mins Dr. B called me and told me Moose's liver enzymes were off the chart. At this point, sheer panic set in. As the trained specialist he is, he explained that I could have him tested and see if he was indeed in liver failure. Mind you, my husband, who is now employed, was laid off at the time as he is a union electrician and work is not always consistent. I told Dr. B my issue and my budget I had to work with and he told me he would make it work. I had the test done on Friday and he told me he would personally call me on Saturday and let me know the results. Well needless to say, I couldn't wait so as annoying as I am, I called and left a message and he called me from his personal cell phone and told me the news I didn't want to hear. My baby was in liver failure and I could try medication that was given and see. I asked him honestly how much time- as the professional he is - he told me bring him in within month and let's see how he is doing on the medication, unless, he stops eating. Within 3 weeks of me feeding my baby steak, rice , hamburger, etc. He stopped eating. I spent one last night with my baby and brought him in at 6:00 am the next morning when they opened on Sunday.
I was a complete mess, I couldn't speak and just held him as close to my heart as I could. They politely handed me tissues and escorted me and my daughter to a private room. I must have asked the vet on call( I am so sorry, I can't even remember her name ) a million times if I was doing the right thing. She proceeded to tell me, with such understanding and sympathy, that he didn't feel good and it was for him. Moose has now crossed the rainbow bridge and I am still crying about losing my baby as I write this!
I can not express my sheer gratitude for Dr. B and staff
