| - Pass! Pass! Pass! If you don't read the entire review (aka my rant), just take this piece of advice and never come here.
The first red flag is that this buffet is in the Rio which is off the strip. In my case, I had to get in my car and take a special trip to eat here since I was not staying at the Rio. Against my better judgment of not selecting one of the many great restaurants or buffets on the strip, I did end up driving here.
The second red flag is the Rio is getting to be a pretty sad looking hotel now. It was an f'in ghost town in the casino at like 6pm. The only time anyone is gambling in this hotel is when they have a special event like the WSOP. It's just dying...
The third red flag is there are more people at the buffet and all other parts of the casino combined. The buffet was freaking packed. Just sad to see the Rio reduced to this. I should have bailed on this place... sigh.
I so wanted this place to be good. Reading all these yelp reviews and the whole concept of the buffet of having different types of foods, it really did sound appealing. Thats about it for the high points. It all goes downhill from here.
So I am waiting in line to pay for my entrance fee. Its a sad view of people attempting to figure out the automated kiosk to pay. It can be a huge drag to watch people just failing at trying to figure the crap out. Its like watching the clueless people trying to figure out the self serve check out at the grocery store. You know what I am talking about. I want to slit my throat waiting for these feeble-minded people to figure it out.
So we get in and get seated after about 30-45 minutes. I grab a plate to try all the different foods they have to offer. Grabbed a little bit of Chinese food in the way of chicken chow fun, BBQ pork, egg rolls, and dumplings. The chow fun was way over cooked to the point where the noodles were too soft and falling apart, the BBQ pork was decent but the ones at Panda Express are better which is sad, the egg rolls were too greasy and dry, and dumplings had very little flavor.
On that failed attempt, I grabbed some Mexican food because its tough to screw up beans, chicken, rice and a tortilla.... until I came here. Beans tasted like they came out of a can and rice was like some kind of instant rice. I grabbed a beef tamale as well. That was an epic fail if I have ever seen one. I know why they provided the corn husk now. So you can grab both ends to ring the freaking oil collecting inside the tamale. Once I opened that sh*t up, the beef is dry as hell.
Finally grabbed some crab legs and a cut of prime rib. Crab legs were mediocre at best and the prime rib pretty much getting a steak at Chilis.
I had planned on trying as much as I could and paced myself in the beginning by getting a little of each. I could have eaten a lot more, but to be honest, the food was just food to fill you up and it didn't have any flavor behind it. I was freaking hungry for dinner and I could and would have eaten more food just as long as it wasn't this food. Should have gone anywhere else.
