  • So, the good part about Green Street is that they have a lot of properties. If there is a particular part of town where you want to live, chances are Green Street can help you out. Unfortunately, that's about all I have to say about Green Street in terms of praise. While most of their properties are acceptable, it generally seems like their places are overpriced for what you get and interacting with them is always a pain. Case in point: they are notoriously bad about showing apartments. My place was shown approximately a month or so after I moved in. At first, I thought it was a freak occurrence, since I still had another ten or eleven months on my lease. It wasn't. Because they have so many properties, they show prospective tenants five or six properties at a time, regardless of whether or not the property is immediately available or the tenant is particularly interested. My place must have been shown at least 30 or 40 times over the course of the year, often without any kind of warning and often without any kind of knock at the door (thank God for deadbolts...). From what I have heard from other people, this is standard operating procedure at Green Street, so if you rent from them, expect them to show your place early and often. The second major problem I had with Green Street was how they handle maintenance. I have been renting apartments for close to a decade, so I have a pretty good sense of common standards amongst landlords. Every place I have been in the past, the landlord typically responds to maintenance requests within 48 hours. At Green Street, you are lucky to get them to respond in a week. Even then, it usually only happens after multiple requests. We didn't have too many problems at our place, but the thing that pushed me over the edge came when our basement flooded during a major rainstorm and our sump pump couldn't keep up with it. It took us close to a week to get the standing water out of there and another week to get someone in to bleach the floors from the flood residue. As a result, our laundry area was a mess and smelled like a barn the entire time. Green Street could have brought a manual pump in and fixed things in a day or two. But they didn't. Why? Because they're Green Street. The only satisfaction I got from the experience was the fact that they showed our place once or twice during the flood. Shockingly, the people decided not to rent it.
