| - In June 2015, we hired Flat Rate Movers to move from a 4 bedroom home into another 4 bedroom home in Union County, NC.
We do not recommend this company and are writing this review as a warning to potential customers.
The Good
~ They provided a quote in advance. Based on the detailed list we provided to them in writing, they provided us a quote of 9 hours. They moved within the estimated 9 hour timeframe.
~ The movers showed up on time.
~ They brought their own truck.
~ They brought moving dollies.
~ They brought furniture pads/covers.
~ They partially disassembled some of our furniture.
The Bad
~ On the quote, they listed the following: 1-17'FT Truck - 2 Professional Movers - Loading/Unloading to completion - Dollies, Full valve insurance, furniture pads, Cardboard Plastic wrap, carpet runners, assembly/re-assembly. Gas Included. All Packing materials are included. Crating will be determined onsite.
a) The truck was a basic box truck with no logos/signage and did not have a moving ramp.
b) If the movers were professional, they were not experienced. Although one appeared to be more experienced than the other, the decisions made throughout the moving process were not done with the best care of our property and peace of mind.
c) The movers barely used their dollies. They did not secure items that were on the dollies. As a result, they dropped our dryer while coming down the stairs...thankfully, it was not damaged.
d) They did not use the furniture pads/covers. As a result, they damaged our cherry wood dining room table, the dresser in our guest room, our entertainment center, our sofa/loveseat, etc.
e) Carpet runners were not used at either the old or new house
f) They disassembled our kids' bunk beds...and did not properly secure all of the pieces. As a result, we are missing some of the hardware.
The Ugly
The day before our scheduled move, we moved our own boxes to decrease the necessary amount of time based on the estimate they provided (9 hours). This had no positive impact as the movers still took 9 hours. The move should have taken no longer than 6 hours.
Here's the actual list of items that needed to be moved on moving day:
~ dining room table, 8 chairs
~ entertainment center; 55" TV; loveseat; sofa
~ eat-in kitchen table, 6 chairs
~ 2 bookcases; computer desk with hutch; file cabinet; tv stand
~ full mattress and box spring w/bed; dresser w/mirror; chest; desk
~ twin full size bunk beds; dresser
~ king mattress and box spring
~ washing machine and dryer
~ refrigerator
In addition:
~ The moving truck had a couple of items on it. The truck should have been empty.
~ When the dryer was dropped down the stair, the door swung open downward because the dryer was being moved with the door at the bottom (towards the floor).
~ The garage door in our new home was removed to bring the washer and dryer into our laundry room. It was not returned to its previous state. Thankfully, we knew how to fix it.
~ The walls going up the stairs in our new home were damaged.
~ Nearing the end of the moving process, we noticed the damage to our cherry wood dining room table as it was being unloaded. We immediately brought the damage to the attention of the movers. In addition...before the movers left, we spoke with the company rep who scheduled the move. We advised the rep of the damage and immediately provided pictures via e-mail before the movers left. The rep said he would forward the e-mail to the claims department. We have followed up SEVERAL times over the past 2 months. We have not heard anything from the moving company.
