| - You are an owner-less puppy dog sitting in the window of a pet store while someone dangles some beef jerky right outside the window. You quickly realize your terrible fate. You are trapped, away from a world full of delicious treats. You have love to give, but no one to give it to. Such is the experience flying into the US from Pearson.
While they do not warn you of this, you go through US customs in Toronto, which means that you have to show up even earlier than the two hours they normally require for international flights. On a holiday Monday, there were only three security stations open. It took about 45 minutes to get through the line though it estimated 15-20 at the start of the line.
Once you get through, you see a glass wall showing you the B-gates, where there are a ton of awesome restaurants and bars to check out while you bide your time, waiting for your flight. You cannot go to any of those restaurants and bars however, unless you want to go through customs and security again. You are trapped with the choice of a single bar (where a beer costs $10.50) or convenience stores to get you through your wait. You would think that they would put more places to spend your canadian dollars here, so if you have no further use for them, you can get rid of them all before you head back to the states. (Canada, please note: I want to spend my money here, but you have to work with me!)
On the plus side, there is free wifi, fast enough to stream video (I recommend netflix).
