This place is a real gem for those who like to geek out or are true history buffs (that would include my son and husband). We took a visit to Vegas with the family and really wanted to check this place out. We got in here with a Groupon which was $48 for the whole family (5 people) plus access to Area 51.
There are two areas in this exhibit - Area 51 and the National Atomic Testing Museum (NATM).
Area 51 is all about extraterrestrial life and aliens. There are cheesy electronic sounds, alien dolls and some news articles on sightings. They have old radio broadcasts and some video clips. I definitely would not pay full price for access to this area, but if you get in on a Groupon deal, definitely take it. My kids, who are 14, 11, 9 were intrigued.
The NATM is really well done. Lots of information, pictures, videos and facts. They keep the exhibits interesting and interactive. Lots of tactile demonstrations for kids to play with too. They have a video room which demonstrates what a real nuclear bomb would have felt like if you were nearby and gives a brief bio on the testing performed by those who worked during those times. It plays every 10 minutes.
We easily spent over 2 hours here and with the Area 51, it was closer to 3. They even have a nice souvenir store and we bought some really cool postcards to frame.
I highly recommend this place if you are in the Vegas area. Put it on your must do list.
