| - Il Posto is very close to my house, so I'd been jonesing to try it again. I had been here years ago when it was known as Our Gang, and I was as impressed with the actual restaurant now as I was then: it is big, but has lots of nooks and crannies and a cool outdoor area with a fire pit and outdoor bar, it's pretty nifty for Phoenix. They've made it feel very Scottsdale with the new decor inside. I can take that or leave it. The food is what matters, and the food was good, but not great. I can't remember how good it was back in the Our Gang days, that was like nine years ago, but the food now is hit and miss. It is definitely more hit than miss.
The meal starts with a complimentary basket of bread with a garlic/parmesan/pesto dipping sauce that is just plain FABULOUS. We had the crab cakes appetizer. The flavor was absolutely delicious and the remoulade it came with was decadent, but the cakes were ruined by being ridiculously mushy. I had the seafood manicotti (see my uploaded picture) which we both agreed was blameless and wonderful. My wife had the veal parmesan which we both found bland and somewhat overcooked, with too much breading. It came with an abundance of pasta on the side, soaked in a sauce that was a lot like thickened tomato soup. I like tomato soup, she doesn't. It was pretty unforgivably mediocre.
All in all, we didn't feel like our experience was worth sixty bucks, but we think we might feel different if we came back and ordered more judiciously.
