| - I gave my son and his girlfriend tickets to see Jonathan Coulton on 1/29. They love him, as do I and I decided to join them. Although they moved to Los Angeles in early January, they decided to fly back just for the show.
My Son is 23 and his girlfriend is 22. She had applied for a California license and the authorities hole punched her AZ driver's license but gave her a temporary CA license. When we arrived at the Marquee the staff refused to allow her to have a wrist band because her Arizona Drivers license was hole punched. Although she had indisputable evidence of her age, the staff was unable to make a common sense, no brainer decision to allow her to drink. I discussed this with the person in charge who, claimed to be "certified" by the state (insert pun), but I could not seem to unearth any ability within her to apply an common sense. When it was evident she did not seem to have the ability nor authority to relent, I gave up.
We went inside and my son grabbed a rum and coke but I refused to give this venue any more of my money, out of principle. We went to the outside bar area to sit and relax until the start of the concert. My son's girlfriend took and ill advised sip of the rum and coke while we were waiting. Apparently, the staff had someone spying on her and, within 2 minutes, a man in his thirties, about the size of Adolph Hitler, walked up with at least five goons(lets call them the Gestapo) to back him up. I am not sure if they expected a brawl or something but our trio was as docile as they get. He simply said "she is not legal and you are out of here". No conversation, no warning, no offer of a refund. They simply threw her out without any discussion. If course we were not going to stay without her. When we asked for a refund they refused. So much for my Christmas present to them. In the end we wasted our time, we lost the money for the tickets and my son and his girlfriend spent their time and money to get back here, only to be confronted by a group of unprofessional, uncaring employees.
I would never attend another event at this venue, nor will my son and his girlfriend. He has attended at least 15 shows at the Marquee and his friends have vowed to boycott the theatre. I would suggest anyone thinking about attending this venue to think twice. You may not have the good time you are paying for. I, for one, will choose to spend my entertainment dollars elsewhere.
I did not want to write a review like this. I would have preferred to contact the Marquee Theatre directly but could not find any way to contact them. Makes me think they don't want to be contacted. They must be making so much money they just don't care.
