I usually like to support independent coffee stands, but this place needs to step up its game. Friday I ordered my usual nonfat latte. The barista told me they didn't have nonfat milk, but had rice milk, soy milk, and almond milk. Thinking I misunderstood her, I asked "You don't have any milk?" to which she said they had whole milk. How does a coffee house not have a few types of cow's milk? Do that many patrons get rice milk in their coffee drinks? Ick. I guess I'm just not hip enough. Urban Beans usually makes a pretty good coffee and their bakery items are good. But it is starting to look a little dingy and dirty and seriously, a coffee house shouldn't run out of milk. Update: I visited again in March of 2018 to give Urban Beans another try. This visit the barista informed me they were "plant based" and do not serve cow's milk. (They didn't used to be.) So, unless you are vegan, lactose intolerant or for some other reason don't drink cow's milk, you might want to visit Starbucks across the street.
