| - Got an awesome 2 for 1 deal on Groupon and took advantage of the National Atomic Testing Museum on a hot Saturday afternoon. My husband and I were both born and raised in Vegas and are familiar with all things NV Test Site (or so we thought before our visit here!). The museum is a wonderful plethora of knowledge about nuclear energy and testing, historical photos, video and audio of atomic and nuclear bombs, artifacts and a super cool Ground Zero theater that gives you the (somewhat toned down) simulation of an above ground test. This runs every 15 minutes and you don't want to miss it. There are a lot of video monitors placed throughout the museum to view short clips, areas of interest that include very brief audio and movies and a few areas staged as time capsules of what offices and homes may have looked like at the birth of atomic testing.
There is A LOT of information here so plan on spending a couple hours if you want to see, hear and read everything. Be aware that there is quite a bit of reading and if there are a lot of patrons there, it may be challenging to maneuver around everyone to see it all.
They allow still pictures but no recording and museum staff periodically walk through to answer any questions or help out.
The facility is very clean, comfortable and expansive. All in all, I was impressed with it. There's lots of parking, bathroom are super clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. At the end of the museum there's the obligatory gift shop with some cool (overpriced, cough, cough) items. The only complaint I have is the price. $22 a person seems like quite a lot. I was fortunate enough to find a 2 for 1 on Groupon and so paying half of the regular admission price was fair. If you're a science buff, the admission price is probably worth it but for me, I gotta say thank goodness for Groupon!
