| - I have enjoyed coming here several times for many reasons. I finally decided due to how much fun my whole family has every time, not to mention how often we come because they request it by name, I decided to join as a member instead of paying for single visits! I would recommend this also with rainy day ideas, budget-friendly and educational fun, and also how well kept the areas are as far as cleanliness, food and safety. Keep in mind I have a family of 6 children- ranging from ages 6 year old twins, 7 yr old, 8 yr old, 15 yr old and an 18 yr old (myself and husband too)...so we have WIDE range of interests to cover to keep everyone happy! :) They also have parties, grandparent memberships, and special events!
I love that they break the massive museum into stations by categories and also age ranges, because it helps the smaller children enjoy things targeted more toward their learning, but the older children and adults can also have fun on larger or more complex things. I also love that they encourage learning in a fun way that even myself, as an adult, don't realize I'm learning sometimes! The museum is broken down into themed areas such as "I CAN," Learning Garden, Science Experiments, and also Storytelling.
The "I CAN" areas are set up to allow children to engage in hands-on role playing and also inspires them to believe in themselves while they do "adult" things. They have a total of 7 areas for this:
-I CAN Create: drives their imagination with arts and crafts to make masterpieces and take home while also getting a little messy!
-I CAN Move:encourages movement by pretending they're flying airplanes, trains, boats, and an auto shop!
-I CAN Grow: targeted for 0-36 months, mimics a pretend park setting that includes a playhouse, flower garden, pond and water table to splash in--my son's favorite!
-I CAN Be Healthy:focuses on encouraging nutrition and exercise while working on a Farm, milking a cow, planting crops, Town Market, a Doctor's Office, and a Fitness area w a climbing wall, balance beam, etc.--my daughter's favorite!
-I CAN Explore Underwater: mimics a shipwrecked boat to climb and set sail, coral reefs, underwater discovery, and even a blue glow lighting to give an under-the-sea feel!
-I CAN Work: allows role playing as community workers such as firefighters, ambulance drivers and paramedics, veterinarians with stuffed animals to care for and bank tellers--even a life size fire truck!
-I CAN Build: allows them to use cranes, wheelbarrows, and conveyor belts to move bricks, Legos and peg boards to become a construction worker building their own creation!
The main area is called the Town Center with a huge Town Clock, an enclosed climbing area to explore all the way to the top with only a couple exits (which I found easy to manage), Storytelling with puppets, dance and music while having the kids and adults be a part of the show!
The Learning Garden is an outdoor garden and greenhouse area to show nature, plant life and also allows children to take a break from indoors including an outdoor playground with a foam ground!
The only thing I found hard was they do not allow outdoor food or drinks, so you need to purchase them on site or go across the street to eat.. keep in mind everyone in the area is doing the same thing so the restaurant can be packed at peak times.
