I first want to say that having done a lot of volunteering for rescues, rescuing many dogs myself and rehoming them or finding rescues to help, and being involved in the rescue community efforts and educational efforts... This a top of the line facility and the organization definately has the best interest of the animals in mind.
Before I share my experience, I want to speak to the negative comments made on here. The first one from Warren L. in regards to not taking the stray they found. I dont think that Warren has had much experience in how a rescue works. They are not required to take in every animal that is requested and they have to take a lot of variables into consideration. They have to make tough decisions everyday and their top priority must be the care of the animals already in their care. I dont see how them not being able to help in your situation makes them "not have the best interest of the animals in mind" I think you and your girlfriend are very selfish in writing this review and show your lack of maturity through your lack of ability to the look at the situation objectively and with understanding of the how "Rescues" operate. Even with your offer to foster they are putting their rescues name behind the dog and even that can put them at risk that is why most Fosters must go through training and be approved by the rescue. The rescue has to look at the big picture and make sure they are doing what is best to keep running and rescuing 100's or 1000's a year. Also doing Rescue work and having to sort through 1000's of requests everyday is hard. Her email was not rude... it was to the point and my guess would be that is b/c she does not have time for anything else. Your ignorant review could keep many animals and therefore you sir are the one that does not have the animals best interest in mind.
And to the Jenn C. who had the dog that did not work out for... they did take the dog back... I don't think it is truly fair to expect the adoption fees back. They do not make money off the adoption fees... they usually don't even cover the basic care of the animal... it is simply to recoup a small amount of the cost and to make sure that the person adopting the animal is serious. Many in depth studies have been done and show that if you give an animal for free they are less likely to be properly cared for vs there being a price to the adoption. If you adopt a child and it fights with your other child do you give the new child back or do you get them the help they need? I have 8 dogs from 1yr to 10 yrs old... they did not all get along from the get go... one has very aggressive tendencies but I have worked with trainers and all my dogs get along now.... It was a lot of work but that is the responsibility I took on and I do not take that responsibility lightly! We have to have rescues b/c soooo many people do not except the responsibility of having a pet... they do not realize each animal is an individual... they do not want to have to do any work..
Now to my experience. I rescued a dog off the freeway and searched for an owner but could not find one. I already have 8 rescue dogs of my own and my landlord just will not allow another (nor can I handle another) so I set out to find a rescue or a home for my sweet freeway girl. I had tried AAWL before with other dogs but they were full. This time they got back to me right as my time was running out. Everyone was so friendly.. the facility is amazing and I know they will care for her and get her the right home.
