| - I was skeptical about eating here after the not-so-hot reviews in Toronto Life, and pretty much everywhere else, but I was pleasantly surprised.
The food was great. I know it sounds crazy, but the bread basket was a standout - fresh spreads (marscapone butter, oil and garlic, and egglant), combined with 4-5 different types of bread. Delicious.
I started with the creamy polenta, which was completely delicious, and a good size for $15.
For the mains we had the spaghetti, which was delicious and decievingly filling for the size. I also ordered the Agnolotti, filled with a cheese and meat stuffing. Also delicious.
Finally the dessert: A chocolate cake which might even surpass the awesomeness of the Terroni Chocolate cake. Believe it. So dense, almost liquid on the inside, it was perfectly paired with a small scoop of gelato. Amazing.
Service was impeccable - much better than perhaps the earlier experiences of some of the reviewers. It seems that Scarpetta just needed to get in its groove and hire people that are not only pretty faces, but who also excel at customer service.
Altogether a great spot for a nice meal!
