  • I was recently given up to $300 to spend at ANY spa in the city for a day of relaxation and pampering. I have a very generous boss. Unfortunately, I am still kicking myself for choosing this one. I figured it's location in Yorkville, the organized website and the friendly lady on the phone was enough to guarantee me a good experience, right? Services: (1) Manicure, (1) Pedicure & (1) 90 minute massage. First Impression: SMALL & Poorly lit. I walk in and was immediately told to take off my boots and put on these weird black slippers. Um, how about I tell you my name and why I am here first. I also felt uncomfortable leaving my expensive Hunter rain boots in the front entrance, especially if I was going to be brought into a separate room for my treatments. I was then told to chose a colour for my nails. The polish selection was small, and on some very dusty shelves. A small bright light lit them, but again it was so dark in the area it was very difficult to make sure you were choosing purple and not brown. Then some confusion happened on my part. I walked into the room that the lady who greeted me was in (assuming she was in there getting the room prepared for me), only to see a girl in the corner of the room getting dressed. Umm...the door was wide open. WTF. After getting settled into my room, 2 girls began to work on my manicure/pedicure as I laid on the massage table faced up under blankets, partially nude (this was because they were going to do the massage right after). The manicure was properly done and was relaxing. The pedicure was ok; I just wish more sanding of the feet was done. She did it maybe for a total of 10 seconds. I do agree with another Yelper that they left the room a lot with no explanation. A lot of the times they would leave the door open and I'd hear them washing their tools from another room. I had started getting cold as my shoulders were exposed. Then once they began the massage, I became REALLY cold as the girl's hands were freezing. She then proceeded to torture me by laying ontop of my back, kneading every tight muscle in my body like bread dough. It was like she was pulling my love handles all the way to my neck at some points. So painful. This is basically all I thought of throughout the entire massage: -I'm freezing -I can't believe out of all the high-end spas in this city, I chose this one -I'm freezing -Ouch -Get me out of here -I'm freezing The worst part of the experience was that the room they placed me in was RIGHT next to the front door. They have bells on the door to notify when someone's walked in (like they do at fricken MAC'S MILK). So throughout my 90 minutes, I would know when a new client walked in. Moral of the story, do your research before committing to a spa. And don't go to Summerhill.
