| - I recently gave this a try for the first time. I have heard about float pods for many years, and was always intrigued. I had a 50% off groupon code, so this was my pick.
The website told me all I needed to know beforehand, and they had a video to watch before your first session. We were told to take off the street shoes we wore in and put on "spa shoes" (old navy flip flops) and then escorted through the facility for a tour and how to training on the floats. The rooms with the pods are very large and have a shower with soap, shampoo and conditioner. They also provide earplugs for the float. After showering, you put your naked self in the float pod and close the lid. There are controls for lights and music, and they advise you to turn both off during the first float. I felt like there was plenty of room and did not feel closed in or trapped in any way. So yeah- you get in, and you float. Naturally- no effort needed.
Personally, I was very uncomfortable and became painfully aware of the back pain I was hoping to get relief from. It felt, to me, like 60 minutes was a long time and I found myself bored. Maybe I'm a boring person- but I don't think so. I really found myself struggling to even think about stuff- so somehow it does sort of force you to relax..... which is hard for most people in this day in time- were such multi taskers.
Was it cool? Yeah. Different for sure. I might do it again, but probably not this year.
