The rating is for the mortgage department because of a call I recently received to refinance.
Rep - ...I am calling because your loan is going to adjust soon and I want to offer you a fixed rate on your mortgage
Me - Before you pitch me on anything, I want you to know that I do mortgages for a living, so do you have anything that would REALLY benefit me?
Rep - yes, as you know, your current rate of 6% will adjust and if you refinance right now, I can offer you a fixed rate of 7.125%.
Me - oh yea? how much will this cost me?
Rep - only $1500 (I'm estimating...don't remember exactly what he said)
Me - and if I decide to just let my loan adjust without refinancing, what will the rate change to?
Rep - 5.5%
Me - So, you want me to pay you $1500 so that my rate can be fixed at 1 5/8% higher than it will be if I don't do anything? Do I sound dumb enough to do that?
Rep - I see your point sir, would you like to take down my contact number in case you change your mind?
Me - I don't plan on getting any dumber, so no
I admit, the customer service is and always has been great with AmTrust Bank, but for them to actually try this pitch shows that they don't necessarily consider what is best for the customer. I just feel bad for the ones that actually took that deal.
