| - We had our rehearsal dinner at Midwood a few weeks ago and it turned out absolutely fabulously. Midwood is one of our favorite spots and we both knew we wanted to have our rehearsal here b/c the food is so Carolina and southern to us. I want to be clear that the success of this dinner is a testament to the staff at Midwood Ballantyne rather than the Midwood private events coordinator. I hate leaving negative reviews for 1 person but I felt Mark, in comparison to all of our other wedding vendors we worked with, was an office oriented person and regurgitated our contract when asked about things. It seemed like he was quick to say no or put restrictions on simple requests. An example of this is when asked if his staff could hang up 1 small banner and light a few LED votives in paper lanterns, he said no and told us we could get there 30 minutes before our scheduled dinner to set up decor but added that he couldn't guarantee our room would even be available 30 minutes prior. As a rehearsal dinner, of course we were going to be rehearsing right beforehand. Fortunately, I stopped by a few hours before our dinner on a whim (was getting manicure at Apple Nails across the street) and the staff on site was SO HELPFUL and didn't hesitate to say "yes, we can easily take 5 minutes to hang a banner & turn on 10 LED votives!". Anyway, with that rant out of the way, I want to make sure that I give credit to not only the awesome wait staff (wish I remembered their names!) but also the kitchen team b/c the food was wonderful. As always! We had about 30 people, so we chose to do 2 meat buffet with several sides, wings as appetizers, banana pudding dessert and beer and wine. Now on their private events menu they don't offer fries as a side and they actually forgot them initially but when I mentioned that we were supposed to have fries, they served a bunch of baskets of fries on all our tables! Which turned out great and I think people enjoyed having them to snack on (especially since french fries don't really translate well to heating dishes, right?). We stayed late and almost closed the place down, they were so nice and even brought out takeout boxes so that our guests could take leftovers! I would probably hesitate to book another Private Event with them b/c I like a more receptive Events Manager. I have booked private events at The Capital Grill and Dressler's (both locations) and their Events Team were more customer service oriented, flexible and understanding with small requests. They are willing to go around their "rules" to make your event a success... and while the staff at Midwood Ballantyne were awesome, I shouldn't have to show up in person and request things on site and hope they are willing to do it for me, it's not fair to me or the team working that night. Love Midwood as always and I think it's the best BBQ in Charlotte so I will definitely be back :)
