| - After much investigating online, checking out reviews and searching for a trainer, FIIT seemed promising. I went in, met with Jason (the owner), came up with a list of objectives and started working out with Steely the next day.
After suffering from a life changing knee injury that still spontaneously flares when it's angry, I was very cautious and voiced my concerns about reinjuring my leg/knee. The biggest obstacle I wanted to avoid is some meat head training me and trying to push me past my comfort zone. My history has been that I get active, hurt myself by pushing a little too hard or sometimes not at all and be in constant pain for the next month (it's a tendon issue which take forever to heal and very little to aggravate). Before going to FIIT was would walk the dog for half a mile and it was enough to keep me limited for at least a week and in pretty intense pain. it was kind of ridiculous but unfortunately I am not exaggerating.
I worked with Steely twice a week for a month. What happened next was amazing...my leg/knee began to heal, get stronger and hurt less and less. I cannot express how frustrating and debilitating it has been in the last 6 years not being able to use my body actively. Steely has been awesome at hearing me when I'm uncomfortable and my leg is giving me sh*t.
Fast forward...In 6 months time I have lost 4% of my body fat, I continue to get toned and buff (can you believe I actually have triceps muscles? I thought it was a fallacy until I saw them for myself), my energy is crazy high (as if I was a kid), and I am looking forward to seeing what the next few months holds. So remember I was telling you about my bummed leg/knee (I know, how can you forget?) Yeah well, I have been able to hike strenuous trails (longest was 7 miles) without any pain in my leg. I have been able to resume mountain biking again. It brings tears to my eyes as I thought I would never be able to be active like I once was. I have much gratitude to Steely for her guidance in how to strengthen this properly without hurting myself.
I have worked out with Danielle and Jesus (JC) and they are both equally awesome, friendly and fun. The gym has a great energy about it too. Very down to earth trainers and clientele- no pretentious, stuck up, snotty people. There are folks that are 80 years old to the extreme obese to athletes to your average Joe working out, nobody cares. They just want you to feel better about yourself, which is quite awesome! So it is a bit pricey for the personal training...but it's YOUR BODY! Do you really want someone that doesn't know what they are doing and puts zero thought into your training? It's worth every cent and remember- you get what you pay for. A big thanks to the FIIT gang for getting me squared away, especially to Steely!
