rev:text	It's hard to describe the therapist and staff - patient, careful, tell bad jokes while they work miracles. My wife was diagnosed with a rapidly growing malignant tumor in her foot last November. Two weeks later the doctors performed a mid calf amputation. After a difficult two months, she was ready for her first prosthetic. Pro Care was a few blocks from our home. First visit she carried her leg in a bag. Progress was putting it on and standing from a wheel chair to a walker while trying not to put any weight on the prosthetic. Not a good start. Second visit she was able to walk bearing most of her weight on the walker and good leg while pretending to walk on the prosthetic. Therapists don't accept excuses. Pretty soon he was pulling the walker to make her keep up. Each visit the therapist introduced new exercises to get ready for the next steps. Way before she was willing, he took away the walker and introduced a forearm crutch. At first, each step was a struggle while being supported with a safety belt. Now, he follows critiquing each step. Steps and curbs are a particularly terrifying obstacle. So, each visit now includes stepping on and off is a practice platform then a field trip to the parking lot curb. To support the gentle tough love approach, I have removed the wheel chair ramps at home. Going to be walking from now on. Looking back, it's been three months from wheel chair bound to slowly walking with a single forearm crutch. Success and end of professional therapy is walking with a cane. Looks like that is a week away at this rate of improvement. It's been a physically exhausting, a little painful but mostly terrifying journey. Miracles take work sometimes. The therapist and staff at Pro Care work miracles daily. Update. In three months my wife has gone from wheel chair bound carrying her prosthetic in a bag to confidently walking with a cane. In keeping with therapy being just a little more than comfortable, worked with walking without the cane (security blanket) today. It's been an amazing transformation with a motivated patient and expert care.
