  • As Hilton Honors members, we selected this hotel because of its location adjacent to the UNLV campus. Planning to attend a 2-day volleyball tournament over the Labor Day weekend, we wanted to stay somewhere adjacent to the venue and off the LV Strip. The Embassy Suites is located about one mile from the Thomas Mack Center. There is a CVS and several small restaurants located nearby. We booked our room early, so the price was reasonable. The complimentary breakfast and happy hour were a nice treat for weary travelers. The hotel was clean, room was spacious, decor modern, and there was plenty of parking. However, like many of the previous reviews on Yelp, I too have my concerns and will seriously reconsider this location as an option in the future. 1. Our room was located on the second floor, great for easy access from the parking lot and elevator. However, the room was also located near the ballroom and overlooked the parking lot. Problem? Yes... The first day of our stay, we awoke at 5:40 a.m. to the sound of trash dumpsters rolling around in the parking lot. Seems the local waste management company picks up the trash before sunrise. Seriously! When the commotion didn't stop, we looked outside the window to witness a huge brown colored trash truck in the parking lot adjacent to the hotel. If our room was located on the second floor, I wonder how the guests located on the first floor feel about this timing...? 2. The first morning, we went strolled for a leisurely breakfast at 9:00 a.m. with other families from the team. There was no "Do Not Disturb" door hanger to display, so when we returned to our room at 10:00 a.m., housekeeping was already cleaning our room. We could have saved her from cleaning the room, if there was a "Do Not Disturb" sign to display. 3. We returned to the hotel at 7:00 p.m., enjoyed drinks at happy hour, and chatted with several of the families that also traveled to LV for the tournament. As we wandered to the elevator, we walked passed the ballroom. There appeared to be a church service or something going on, lots of music and folks standing and singing. When we retreated to our room, we could hear the loud music penetrating the walls. Thank goodness, the music stopped playing before we went to bed. 4. Throughout the day and night there was a low rumbling noise that continuously turned on and off. You could hear it through the walls...maybe it's the water or ventilation systems turning on and off from the other rooms, I don't know...but we bought earplugs for the second night. 5. After a restful night sleep (earplugs), we headed to breakfast at 8:00 a.m. The staff working at the omelette bar and dining room were very pleasant and efficient. The place was pretty busy, but the chef kept up with the line of people. Preparing to check out, another guest pointed out that the sign posted on the stanchion located in the dining room had a spelling error, complementary versus complimentary (see photo). Hope these signs are not printed for the entire hotel chain... 6. The computer lab had two computers available for guests to print boarding passes, etc. There was another guest struggling to print his boarding passes. Ugh, then I realized that only one computer was connected to the network printer and the printer was out of paper. After filling the paper tray, there were several print jobs lined up in the queue. The printer had been clearly empty for a long time. With no waste paper can located inside this office, there is trash and unwanted sheets of paper strewn across the counter. 7. Other Yelp reviews listed construction and thermostat issues. Yes, there was construction inside the hotel, but it was located on the top floor and did not pose a problem. Yes, the thermostat is funky. It must be on a timer, because it does not hold the temperature throughout the night.
