  • Do you like bad sound systems? If you're under six feet tall, do you like not seeing anything except the back of the person in front of you? Do you really like getting patted down at the airport and want to go somewhere where you can recreate that experience? Well, if so -- then Sound Academy is your kind of venue! You can have all of that -- but wait, there's more! -- expensive drinks, too! Doesn't that sound awesome? I'd been here back in 2007 to see VNV Nation (when it was called the Docks) and, more recently, I was here last week to see Crystal Castles. Or, perhaps I should say "hear" Crystal Castles, because I didn't see a damned thing. All I saw was the shoulders of the person in front of me. And the music didn't sound all that great, either, since the sound system is just tinny and bad. Phooey. The layout is bad, and all-ages venues make me want to gouge my eyes out. Granted, it's not as bad as, say, the Guvernment, but Sound Academy wouldn't be my first choice to see a show. It would probably be my second-to-last choice. I'd have to REALLY REALLY love a band to go to Sound Academy to see another show here; ottherwise, I'm skipping it.
