| - Ah... Moorea. The word alone brings back a wave of awesomeness. Got a cabana credit with my reservation at THEhotel, so I applied it towards an opium bed rental at Moorea. Best thing I've done in ages. Paid full price ($300) for the same cabana two days later it was that much fun.
I highly recommend renting a cabana or day bed for your Moorea experience. You get an awesome setup, great location within the complex, no cover (included in rental price), and a personal host for your entire day at Moorea. Get there early, sleep on your queen-sized mattress under the sun, and enjoy having your own private sanctuary amidst one of the best people watching spots in Vegas.
Moorea itself is a beautiful, retro/deco pool the decor of which parallels that of Mandalay's beach complex. The multiple pool layout is handy, with one main pool with two wading areas, a huge hot tub, and 2 satellite pools (with waterfall). The staff is amicable and accommodating (Brent was particularly helpful). The drinks are regulation priced for Vegas. Food service is available, but it'll be too hot to eat anyway. And, no kids (who singlehandedly destroy Mandalay's pool complex).
I was amazed by the quality of patronage at Moorea. We (me and my soon-to-be-thrilled Y chromosome, plus 3 XX's) went on a Tuesday, then again on Thursday. I expected haggard, leathery eurotrash, but was quite pleasantly surprised to find oodles of topless 20-30 year olds, shamelessly enjoying the Vegas sun au naturale (well, almost). I dare say the gender split when I was there was 60/40 female to male. Bring your sunglasses (duh), act like you're not a kid in a candy store (even though at Moorea, you are), and you will have a day you won't soon forget.
Take home points:
-RENT AN OPIUM BED
-get there early/ at opening
-don't scare the deer- let 'em timidly feed on the grass around you, and with a gentle, non-threatening approach you'll have them eating out of your hand/topless in your cabana in no time
-take care of the $taff, and they'll take care of you, and then some
