  • I've just finished my second month of training at Physix, and joining was one of the best decisions I've ever made. As some who has always been self conscious and intimidated by gyms, I've found the environment to be perfect. The trainers and members alike are all friendly and supportive. No one has ever made me feel bad for struggling so badly to get through the classes during my first several weeks. Instead I got a lot of "we've all been there" and "it gets easier". The classes themselves are fun, and the exercises change every day so you don't get much repetition and you get a well rounded workout no matter how many days a week you show up. Most exercises have various difficulties you can do to give yourself the appropriate challenge, and they'll help modify the exercises as necessary to make sure you can complete something and work towards improving. Often there's another trainer participating in the class who is happy to help with form or explaining the exercises in more detail, which I really appreciated since I didn't have to feel bad about monopolizing the trainer's time during the class. Either Shannon (the owner) or Susan lead the majority of the classes I've taken, and they are both spectacular, good mix of support, encouragement, and pushing you to challenge yourself. They both give great demonstrations of the exercises when explaining the circuit, going over things to focus on with form and talking about which muscles should be working when it's not completely obvious. Shannon is more than happy to get into the science of things with you if that's the kind of thing you enjoy learning about. They classes I've been to are typically fairly small, around 8 people or so. You'll run into the same group of people there day after day, so it has a nice community feel with a lot of camaraderie. A lot of the members there have been there for years, which is a great testament to the program working and people wanting to continue keeping it a part of their routines as they meet and set new goals. It's a very friendly and welcoming group, I quickly felt like I fit in and it has become my exercise home. After doing essentially zero physical activity at all for over five years, I now go to the gym five days a week. Getting myself to take the first step and walk in the door was really hard, but the crew at Physix have made coming back and sticking with it a lot easier than I ever expected.
