Update 1-23-2018
Gus just had his dental cleaning done by Dr. Sultan and everything was great! Thanks to Dr. Sultan for the smooth procedure and she even sat me in the room and talked to me afterwards. I highly recommend Dr. Sultan.
I started going to banfield because my friend Jasmine takes her dog Tooey here because she trust Dr. Sultan. Dr. Sultan worked at the Charleston location banfield but she was transfer to this Parkway location. I have read other yelp reviews and everyone spoke highly of Dr. Sultan and I just made an appointment yesterday for Gus my dog to see Dr. Sultan so hopefully things will be better and smooth for Gus.
Gus is on a wellness plan and he was suppose to get his teeth cleaned yesterday by Dr. Richardson. I was very unhappy and upset about what happened with my experience. I dropped Gus off for his teeth cleaning and I received a phone call from Richardson later telling me he had vomit and asked if I still wanted to proceed with the dental. I said go ahead because Gus gets nervous when he's at the vet and I followed him last night to make sure he didn't eat after 10pm before his teeth cleaning. She then ask me if I wanted to do x rays and make sure he didn't eat anything weird again (because he has eaten a hair tye of mine in the past which they found in the x rays and he eventually did poop out the hair tye) I told her I wasn't concern with him eating anything weird and x rays wasn't necessary and my main focus was to get his teeth cleaning done because I been working to get this done. I thought it was odd trying to push other testing and stuff done while my main focus was to get his teeth clean. So we get off the phone and she went and did the blood work so that she can proceed to do his teeth clean. I get a second phone call that his blood work came up with a little bit high amount in some areas and Richardson asked me if I still wanted to proceed with the dental cleaning surgery. I said well of course because that's what I dropped him off for and then she started to say she didn't think it was safe or she didn't feel comfortable performing the surgery now and she wanted to get more diagnostics tests going for Gus. Why would you asked me if I wanted to continue with moving forward with surgery if you felt that it was unsafe or Gus wasn't ready to go through with it. On top of that I have to pay $124 out of pocket just for the blood work that she did which was suppose to be included with the dental but since she's not going through with the dental base on her decision not mine I have to pay out of pocket. She then told me that she wanted to do more diagnostic test or at least put Gus on antibiotics but she didn't know what was going on with him base on the blood test results. So you made me pay $124 and you don't know what's going on with him or care to explain what is high on his blood work tests so I can better understand what is going on. I felt so frustrated and upset at this point because it just sounded like she was money hungry and pushing me to spend more money and again not get the goal of his teeth cleaning. On top of that she doesn't know what's going on with him but she has his blood work results and she didn't bother to tell me explain to me exactly information for me to better understand the situation. She was being vague about it and just saying that it seems like he has an inflammatory problem and that she didn't want to go through surgery now that she's made up her mind. She wanted to put him on antibiotics but if you don't know what exactly is going on then why are you pushing to give him something. I then proceed to ask her if the antibiotics would help and Her answer was she can't promise or guarantee anything and why would you ever tell a customer that. No customer wants to hear your lack of knowledge or confidence when you are the vet. I don't mean to be rude or mean but I did feel like since this doctor is new to banfield and as a vet, it does make me uneasy. When I first started going to banfield she told me she was new and she didn't know the wellness plan and she had to ask a lot of questions from others. Last time I came to get medications for Gus I gave her the prescription and asked her to check if it's available to buy at banfield since I have the wellness plan and hope to save some money by being a loyal customer and buying from Banfield and her answer was she didn't think they have it but she had to double check and ask others and turns out they did have the medications there so I purchased it from banfield of course. I just feel like she lacks a bit of confidence and knowledge since she's new to banfield and I would trust Gus in better care by another vet. The vibe that I got from this vet makes me feel like she lacks confidence or knowledge and I'm hoping things will get better with another vet at this location and I will be back to update this review.
