  • I greatly prefer this station simply because it's clean and doesn't attract scuzzballs. And there's a Crazy Mocha kiosk inside! This PAT "T" (our city's subway/trolley system) station was originally the Pittsburgh & Steubenville Extension Railroad Tunnel and opened in 1865. There are two platforms: an outbound side platform and an inbound island platform. BNY Mellon Center and the US Steel Tower are both connected by a tunnel that runs through this station. Steel Plaza also gets the most foot traffic according to Port Authority Transit and is within short walking distance to the Consol Energy Center, Gulf Tower, Three Mellon Center, the Koppers Building, and Duquesne University. On temperate mornings, I like being greeted by the sweet nothings of the babbling fountain and the sight of tulips standing like happy, vibrant soldiers in the garden of peaceful, well-manicured Mellon Green. It's better than being eyeballed by hyena-ish, Charles Mansonesque drug addicts and at-risk youth.
