| - My nephew has been at Desert Vista Behavioral for 5 weeks for court ordered treatment. He is 30 years old, so the staff wasn't interested in any input from the family. The doctor at DV would not listen to us when we told him the Abilify (which they were giving him for 3 weeks) does not work for my nephew. He had been taking Abilify as required by Terros for over a year and had bad results. (Terros is totally incompetent, but that review will be done separately).
We told the doctor that Risperdol and Depakote work for him. The doctor finally prescribed both after a few weeks. BUT he gave my nephew way too much. A week ago, on Friday, my nephew started slurring his speech and couldn't understand much. Saturday was worse. He was hallucinating ants in his bed and had imaginary itching on his arms. We told the nurses something was seriously wrong with him, and to call the doctor to stop the Depakote. The nurses act like Stepford Wives and are really just baby sitters, not RNs. They should have observed his symptoms and called the doctor. On Sunday night, I was very angry and told the nurses to do something, and call the doctor to stop the depakote. But the nurse gave him the dose of depakote anyway, on Sunday night. He was rushed to the ER on Monday morning, when he was almost unconscious, with kidney malfunction. It took 5 days at Banner hospital for him to recover. The staff here is terrible. Your loved ones are NOT SAFE here, especially on weekends, when there are no doctors available.
