You can finish reading if you don't care to read about how Boulders missed out on a big opportunity to be a great place for stand-up comedy.
When I was here back in May, this was a cool place to hang out with friends. We played Jenga, drank, ate food, drank, watched sports, drank, and did some more drinking. I had a good time. Later that month, I started doing stand-up comedy on May 28th. Two months later, comedy consumed me. I caught the comedy bug and I wanted to get better, but there weren't enough true open-mic nights to work out new material where you can just go sign up and get on stage. When I first heard Boulders was going to let us riff upstairs, I thought it was a dream come true. To perform at Boulders, you didn't have to book yourself to get on the show, nor did you have to sacrifice your time to be one of the first ten people to show up or you didn't get to do comedy. It was an open mic at its purest form. And it was worth the thirty minute drive to get there too.
When we first started this, we were welcomed with arms wide opened. The staff were very nice to us for providing waters for everyone and were very accommodating. There are a few degenerates in our social circle, but that goes with any group of people. That's no reason to treat us with less hospitality...like blaring music to accommodate only three people hanging out downstairs on a Sunday night, when there are more people trying to get better at comedy upstairs. By drowning us out with your music and making our show less enjoyable, the show in general drew fewer audience members. It was progressively getting less and less of a credible open mic night and more of a colossal waste of time.
I understand you don't like it when broke comedians are thrifty in withhold from spending money on your food and beverages, but most of us were at least trying to scrape out our piggy bank savings for food and alcohol to keep you fire-breathing dragons happy for us giving back to Boulders. But that just wasn't enough to keep you from playing music on full-blast with your passive aggression towards our craft. This is like writing a letter to an unrequited love and it is bringing tears to my eyes writing this. We really wanted this to work, but this was a failed experiment on both ends. I hope one day we can do a comedy show here again for old times sake, and I hope I can forget about this so I can return to the good old days at Boulders.
Thank you for the good times and I can't recommend this place enough to music lovers.
