| - This spot is a hidden gem in a generally dreary strip mall at the corner of Shea & Scottsdale Rd. (Bonus: there are ample parking spaces.) I discovered it after attending a nearby event; I was craving GOOD coffee in a funky locale. As a lover & avid supporter of independently & locally own businesses - especially coffee shops - Maverick was spot on.
The lackluster, easy to miss grey-blue exterior deceptively masks the well done, welcoming interior. I would describe the space as wood & metal modern - a type of space that'd be appealing to a wide range of customers. Multiple seating arrangements are provided:
- smallish, high-top
- large group (or multiple individuals)
- lower shared between couch or chairs
- along the end of the bar
- back room table (available to reserve?)
I appreciate the number of comfy chairs perfect for visiting with others or solo reading. The wide variety is impressive for the medium-sized space.
The greeting from baristas isn't an open-armed welcome, but it's far from rude or hipster snobby. It's laid-back, helpful, & super knowledgable.
Their espresso is a rich, high-quality pour. My can't-hide-low-standards iced americano met my high expectations. Mom was impressed by her extra hot (by request), well-frothed cappuccino, & dad said his coffee was "pretty good" - high praise from a warmly poker-faced guy.
The only food item I've tried is a tauntingly decadent, enough-for-two, frosted cinnamon roll. I visited Maverick on my birthday, & accepted the delicious challenge. The roll was fresh & chewy - in the best kind of way. And that cream cheese frosting...seriously!?...thick, creamy lusciousness. I savored each bite, walked home, & still smiling, slipped into a happy birthday, sugar coma nap.
