I've visited the Charlotte area and had lunch and dinner at Bill Spoon's BBQ. This is my first time having North Carolina BBQ. It is different from the Texas and Chicago style of BBQ I have experienced. Note: My reviews are about the food, so I don't generally comment on decor or service.
I thought the chopped pork small plate was excellent. I tried it without sauce to get the flavor of the meat and it is excellent. Sauce is sweet with a good depth of flavor. Hushpuppies were very good and a treat as I did not know they were coming. Sides were coleslaw and potato salad. Both are mustard based which is different than what I've eaten in the past. Very good acidity and just a hint of sweetness. It cuts the richness of the pork nicely. I will be back for the collards, green beans and mac/cheese.
Had the fried flounder today. Expertly fried fish. Very tasty and will definitely be back for it again. At $12 for lunch and an iced tea, you can't go wrong. Staff was very nice and spent time visiting with me. Thanks for the great food.
