| - I gave U-Haul one star, although that feels generous. My interactions with U-Haul were absolutely terrible, and they were so rude and disorganized. What had happened was that although I was supposed to move for 1 Jan, I was offered a place for December 1 in the last week of November. I had a moment of panic, but then decided to move half of my stuff for the 1st of December, and the rest later. So I rented a UHaul, ostensibly from this location. Big mistake! What happened was that U-Haul didn't actually have trucks or availability, but none of this was made clear when I booked. Instead, I got a very rude phone call the morning of the move from an extremely ignorant woman. She told me that in the end, "my" U Haul would be available at 5 p.m. in Scarborough. Um, what? I explained to the woman that I lived in downtown Toronto, and I was moving to another part of the downtown, and that it didn't make sense for me to go to Scarborough for 5. She then proceeded to lecture me on 'booking last minute.' It's not really her business WHY I booked, and I do believe it's U-Haul's job to either accommodate a reservation that THEIR site made, or not make the reservation in the first place. Ugh!
In the end, I gladly spent more money and rented from the Budget Rent-A-Car at 333 College. Their service was so much better, and they were polite, helpful, and easy to work with. It made a stressful move much better--the office was filled with people in the middle of moves (and thus highly on edge) but they were kind and professional.
